Aimee James Karstens, PhD

Dr. Karstens is a neuropsychology postdoctoral fellow at Mayo Clinic, Rochester. She received her doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Illinois, Chicago. She completed her clinical psychology internship in the neuropsychology track at Brown University's Alpert School of Medicine.

Both my research and clinical work take a multidisciplinary approach to neuropsychology. The focus of my research is understanding how risk and resiliency factors influence cognition and brain structure as people age including genetics, sex, lifestyle habits (e.g., diet), and psychiatric history. The broader focus of my work is to examine risk factors for Alzheimer's disease and other causes of cognitive decline in older adults, particularly amongst those who are at disproportionate risk for dementia. This work emphasizes factors that are modifiable or can be targeted through precision medicine approaches.
